Yehudi Menuhin

A dedicated teacher, Carole was appointed Piano Tutor at the Royal Northern College of Music in 1996 and was a member of the keyboard staff there for thirteen years . She was invited to join the keyboard faculty of The Purcell School in 2007 and, shortly afterwards, the Royal Academy of Music. In 2013 she was appointed Senior Tutor in Keyboard Chamber Music at Guildhall School of Music & Drama, a post which she now combines with her principal study piano teaching at the Royal Academy of Music. Her interest in the pedagogical process led her to write a paper:  'Conservatoire student and instrumental professor: the student perspective on a complex relationship' which was published in the British Music Education Journal (B.J Music Ed. 2005 22:3,237-248).  She has also contributed articles and reviews for the European Piano Teachers Association Journal.

Prior to 1996 Carole was Coach/Accompanist at the Yehudi Menuhin School, and during this time she was invited to accompany masterclasses at the International Musicians Seminar, Prussia Cove, the Britten-Pears School in Aldeburgh and the London Master Classes. She was privileged to come under the influence of Yehudi Menuhin whilst working at the school, and later acted as official accompanist for the Menuhin International Violin Competition in both France and England.

Carole is frequently invited to adjudicate, examine and give masterclasses for the UK's leading conservatoires and specialist music schools. She has also adjudicated at some of the country's leading public schools including Bedales, Cheltenham Ladies College, Harrow, St Paul's Girls School and Christ's Hospital.

Her work on competition panels has been diverse and has included the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition (UK selection round), Young Concert Artists Trust, Royal OverSeas League Competition, the Brant International Piano Competition, Kirckman Concert Society and Making Music's Dorothy and Philip Green Young Artists Award. She has also adjudicated the Royal College of Music's Chappell Gold Medal, the RNCM's Mary Ray Piano Prize,  the Ivan Sutton Chamber Music Award at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Piano Prizes at the Junior Royal Academy of Music and Junior Trinity Laban Conservatoire, the European Piano Teachers Association Piano Prize and the 'Chamber Music for Schools Competition'.

Carole has coached chamber music for diverse organisations, giving chamber music and solo masterclasses at the Royal Northern College of Music, Birmingham Conservatoire, Trinity Laban Junior Department, but also for Pro Corda, the Benslow Music Trust and Bromley Youth Music Trust. Carole has taught at Cadenza International Summer School and has been a Tutor and Artist in Residence at 'Lake District Summer Music' for over twenty five years.

Carole Presland was elected an HonARAM by the Royal Academy of Music in 2013.
